Metallica Announces Supporting Acts for TourWorld Magnetic Tour Returns to North America
Promoting the hit Death Magnetic album, Metallica announces the supporting acts for its upcoming North American tour.
Metallica’s never-ending World Magnetic Tour is returning to North America this fall. The second North American leg of the tour begins on Sept. 14, 2009, in Nashville, Tennessee, and hits major cities in the U.S. and Canada before wrapping on Dec. 12 in San Jose, California. Metallica’s Death Magnetic Album Heavily touring since 2008, Metallica has played virtually all over the globe in support of its twelfth album, Death Magnetic. Parting ways with long time producer Bob Rock, the band worked with legendary producer Rick Rubin on the release. In a Sept. 18, 2008, Rolling Stone review by Brian Hiatt, Death Magnetic is called “the musical equivalent of Russia’s invasion of Georgia – a sudden act of aggression from a sleeping giant.” Further, he states, “This album is Metallica becoming Metallica again.” The album seems to signal a return to the band's progressive rock roots of the eighties, as demonstrated in hits ...And Justice for All and Master of Puppets. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Death Magnetic sold 490,000 copies within three days of its release. In addition, the album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, and has remained on the chart for 42 weeks thus far. Metallica’s World Magnetic Tour Currently, Metallica is playing shows throughout Europe. The band will return to North America, however, this fall. The majority of the performances will occur in the United States, with a few Canadian shows disbursed throughout. The extensive tour has already included a North American leg, which began Oct. 21, 2008. Since then, the group has continued with two European legs and a stint of dates in Mexico. Several of the tour’s shows have been recorded and are to be released on DVD later this year. World Magnetic Tour DVD A DVD release of the band’s recent performance in Nimes, France will be available for purchase on Oct. 19 at most French music stores and on the Metallica website. In addition, the band’s Mexico City performances will be released on DVD, but the date has yet to be announced. In the interim, however, fans can view the Nimes show via web stream from July 10-13 on the French website Wormee. Viewers will need to register before watching, and the video is available to Metallica lovers world wide. Metallica Announces North American Supporting ActsToday, Metallica announced its supporting acts for the upcoming fall shows of its North American tour. Lamb of God will be the main supporting act on all dates from September to November. Gojira will join in for the shows occurring from Sept. 14 - Oct. 18, and Volbeat will play from Oct. 26 - Dec. 12. World Magnetic Tickets Tickets for the North American shows are on sale now, with several having already sold out. Fans can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster, and should not miss the opportunity to see Metallica in action.
